It seems that for many of us *time* has become a stumbling block in our lives. The days seem to whiz by; we go from Spring to Summer to Christmas in the blink of an eye. By the time you get to mid-December – do you want to spend it cleaning?

Dust is always going to fall, no matter what the season, and of course, most of the mess is when everyone is at home for the Christmas break, and you are busy wrapping gifts and cooking large amounts of food, ready for the family to descend.

It’s by default that now Christmas has become the new spring – especially when it comes to giving your house a good *going over*.

This is the ideal time to take that step and hire a professional cleaning service. Look for a cleaning service that has insurance, experience and a good reputation. Some services simply provide the labour and use your products, while others like HouseProud use products they prefer and know will work.

Remember that this will be a busy time, so book ahead to secure your preferred date and time.

Christmas is a time for you to relax, it’s not the time to be emptying cupboards, pushing around a vacuum cleaner and dusting light fittings. There are people available to do that hard work for you – let them.

A deep or “spring” clean can take anywhere from 4 to 10 hours depending on both the current condition of your home and its size. Spring cleaning services can include, kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, stairs and hallways with the options to add carpet cleaning, window cleaning, exterior cleaning and – on request specialised cleaning.

Spring cleaning your home before Christmas by a professional cleaning service will give you peace of mind. You know your house will be cleaned from top to bottom – including places you overlook. Your home will be fresh and shiny, ready for you to enjoy the holiday season with friends and loved ones, this way you can relax without worrying if there is soap scum in the shower or stains on the kitchen floor. Sit back, enjoy your time off work and concentrate on wrapping presents, decorating the tree, organising gifts and your Christmas lunch menu because when it comes to cleaning the house – it’s all been done for you.

The end of the year means different things to different people. For some, it’s a chance to take some time off work and enjoy the downtime. For others, it’s an opportunity to travel to their childhood homes and reconnect with loved ones. But for almost everyone, it means having more guests in your house than you’re used to, and that makes it harder to keep it clean.

HouseProud offers professional domestic cleaners that will do the dirty work for you. We’ll send our team over to your home, and you won’t have to lift a finger or worry about a thing because our team is well skilled and fully insured. But even with a cleaning service, you might want some tips on how to keep your house in order on a daily basis.

You’ll receive a lot of holiday gifts, and making space for them can be a challenge. And if you don’t create enough storage space, you will quickly gather clutter. A good rule is to get rid of two old items for every new one you receive. You don’t have to throw them away, but you can donate them or gift them to other people.

We’ve all heard about Marie Kondo, but you may be unfamiliar with Japanese Oosouji. At the end of every year, every area of your home, office, or school gets a thorough top to bottom cleaning. Ideally, you should set aside the last week of the year for this. The lull between Christmas and New Year’s celebrations is a good time for ‘summer cleaning.’

During the holiday period itself, kids are the most prominent culprits of clutter and mess, so it may help to get them involved in the clean-up process. Set up a special Christmas stocking just for keeping the house clean, and tell the kids that every time they clean up after themselves, they get a special token added to their stocking.

They could get a token when they clear the table after meals, do their dishes, clean their rooms, or put away their toys. These tokens can be cashed in on Christmas day. They can be exchanged for extra gifts, cash to spend at the mall, or Christmas candy. Make it fun and competitive for the kids.

Sometimes the most straightforward options are the best. Since there will be so many houseguests and you’ll probably spend a lot of time outdoors, institute clean feet rule. That means everyone must leave their shoes at the door, so they don’t drag the dirt in.

If there’s pool or beach outings in play, ask house guests to rinse their feet before they come into the house. This will help them get rid of any sand, salt or grass that they may have gathered while they were busy enjoying the outdoors.

For some professional help in keeping your house clean over the holidays, call HouseProud today on 1300 880 198.

Summer is finally here and the days are getting warmer, while you can call in a house cleaning service to get your home in shape, there are a few things you can do to help keep your home smelling fresh between house cleaning service visits.

Clean and summery scents do a lot for us, but if you don’t want to use sprays and plug-in air fresheners, burners or melts – you can use a range of natural ingredients to make your home smell clean and fresh.

  • Lemon – the zesty, clean fragrance of lemon gives you that instant lift. Why not try rubbing a few drops of essential lemon oil on doorknobs, or you can peel a lemon and then twist the peel so that the oils are released. Alternatively, you can simmer some slices of lemon on the stove to scent the air.
  • Lavender – find a nice decorative container and pop a handful of dried lavender into it. If you pop it beside your bed in the bedroom, not only will it make your room smell fresh, it will also help give you a relaxing sleep.
  • Rosemary – did you know you can burn sprigs of dried rosemary (be sure to place a dish underneath to catch any sparks!). This not only cleanses the atmosphere in your home, but the scent is also very refreshing. Rosemary has been used in sickrooms for centuries since it is a time-honoured antimicrobial.
  • Vanilla – the vanilla bean has properties that reduce odours. Just take 1-2 teaspoons of natural vanilla extract, place it in a small cup and leave it wherever you need the air to be fresher.

Sprays and mists are a great way to add beautiful and natural scents to your home, and, they are proven allies in the fight against germs. Mists and sprays are a simple and effective way of providing some aromatherapy just by using a spray bottle, water and some essential oils. There is nothing easier than spraying a few drops of these antibacterial sprays on bathroom surfaces, doorknobs, telephones – anything you touch – to keep your home smelling sweet.

Essential oils are antibacterial, so they help kill germs. These formulas will keep indefinitely, and your home will smell marvellous – you also won’t have to worry if house guests bring colds with them.

This recipe will make 5 cups of spray. Use it on non-staining surfaces or just spray upwards into the centre of the room – avoid contact with your eyes

Ingredients
Use an eyedropper to place the following in a small glass jar with a lid (a baby food jar is ideal):

  • 20 drops sweet orange essential oil
  • 10 drops lavender essential oil
  • 10 drops eucalyptus essential oil

Mix well. To use, add 4-8 drops of this base to one cup of purified or distilled water in a spray bottle, shaking to mix. Store in a cool, dark place.

What would you like to be surprised with this Christmas? A Ferrari? An overseas holiday? That nice outfit you saw online? How about something a little more achievable but equally as fulfilling? How about a house that’s cleaned, top to bottom, without you having to lift a finger? Oh, it must be those wonderful cleaning elves again!

As much as we wish cleaning elves were a real thing, they’re not – although, without boasting, we’re kind of the next best thing. HouseProud’s team of cleaning elves can definitely clean a home from top to bottom, all without anyone else lifting a finger.

Now think, if you’d like this Christmas present, who else would too? Probably half the people in your life? How many people do you know that love to clean except for your slightly OCD auntie Lucy? Shout out to Monica from Friends here, while we’re at it. And come to think about it, maybe we’ll invite Lucy to come and stay for a week…

Jokes aside, the gift of house cleaning works well for so many people. Cleaning your home is a chore, and unless you’ve got a super small apartment, it can take a really long time to do a proper clean. Don’t your friends and family have better things to do over the Christmas holidays than clean their home! We sure hope they do.

Giving the gift of a house clean is sure to put a smile on anyone’s dial, especially if they have kids, pets, or a substantial home. You can choose to gift the gift of a one-off clean, or, if you’re feeling particularly generous, how about an ongoing service? They’re sure to appreciate it!

Who’s hosting Christmas day this year? How about if you give them the gift of a clean in advance, so they can bring in the cleaners to help clean up afterwards? If you have a very large family and/or friends group, then this can be a gift like from the angels themselves!

We have cleaning services all over the country. Dedicated, professional, trained staff who are reliable and trustworthy, with the track record for a top clean. So if you’re looking to give friends and family the gift of a clean home, then you should look to us.

Let our cleaning elves help you out with gift ideas and let them take care of your family and friends’ homes. Giving the gift of a house clean can be a lifesaver for many over the holiday period. And, hopefully, one year, if you’re lucky – they’ll even return the favour by giving you a home cleaning voucher in return.

We’re approaching the final season of the year, and unlike the rest of the world that is set for snow and chilly weather, we have a warm, lovely summer coming up. And with the holidays coming up, you may have a lot of family and friends visiting. You probably want it to be nice and clean, so they don’t think you’re a slob.

On the other hand, with so many people in the house, maintaining your preferred level of cleanliness will be more of a challenge than usual. It helps to call in professional cleaning service like HouseProud. We can discreetly clean your home a few times a week, and we’ll be sure to stay out of your way.

However, your domestic cleaners won’t always be around so you might want a few ideas on how to keep your house nice and tidy. Start with the bathroom. It will take a pounding because the heat will have everyone constantly looking for excuses to splash water on their hands and faces, bringing in dirt and grass stains from outside.

If you’re having guests, consider posting a note in the bathroom to remind everyone to open a window when they shower. It reduces humidity and minimises the possibility of mould. Do a walk through periodically and discard empty bottles, since everyone will pile their brand of shampoo, soap, shower gel, or toothpaste in the bathroom.

When you use the bathroom, clean it right after. Surfaces will accumulate moisture, and that can leave water stains, so wipe them down as soon as possible after you’re done with your shower. Try to get your houseguests to do the same.

If you have an indoor-outdoor space, you’ll probably spend a lot of time there, so it helps to keep the outdoor furniture clean. If your furniture is metallic, it may have rusted over the spring. You can get rid of rust by sanding the metal and rinsing off the rust flakes. For other kinds of furniture, you can clean them with soapy water and a soft brush, then rinse.

Sort your laundry room for ease of use by house guests. Clear labels for piles of whites and coloureds will be helpful. Get rid of any clutter so that there’s enough open space for everyone and their washing. Try to keep the space neat, since piles of clothes – even if they’re clean clothes – will make the room feel dirty.

In the kitchen, clean the appliances. Get rid of grime on the sinks, cooktops, microwaves, and even the switches. You should also give your garbage can a good scrub since the heat will make old food stains smell a lot worse. Dry it thoroughly after washing.

While you’re at it, clean the fridge and throw out any old food. Stock the fridge with fresh supplies in preparation for any summer visitors. It’s an excellent chance to pick some fruits and vegetables that may be in season. Make sure everything looks good and smells fresh.

To keep your home spotless this summer, call HouseProud on 1300 880 198 and get a free no-obligation quote.

Is there anything worse than waking up the night after you have a party and surveying your backyard full of empty glasses, half-full beer bottles, and remnants of dinner scattered on plates around your home? Talk about mood killers.

If you’re hosting a party this summer do yourself the biggest favour in the world by booking in your next day clean up with professional house cleaners. Let them do the work while you pop Nurofen and hide in the comfort of your bedroom, watching old episodes of Seinfeld trying to make yourself feel better.

Get them to clean the tomato sauce off the wall. Get them to clean the second loo. Get them to clean those sticky floors until they’re shiny and new again.

Hiring a crew to clean up the inevitable mess is an absolute godsend, whether it’s Christmas at yours, a New Year’s party, an Australia Day blow out, or just a dinner party that you think might be a big one. Once you get the crew round once to clean up you’ll be wondering why on earth you’ve never thought to do it before. These guys are professionals, so they get the job done quickly, with the best products, and well… they aren’t slow and miserable because they aren’t hosting any hangovers.

You’ll be surprised at just how affordable our after party cleanups can be, too. It makes sense to work the clean up into the budget of your party. And party budgets are essential, especially around Christmas time, when we’re likely to have a few blowouts on presents, nights out, and taxis here and there.

So if you’re hosting events over summer, make sure to think of us. HouseProud can help you out when you’re no help to yourself and take the pain out of the day after that event of yours. Our professional services team are on hand to come and tackle your event space, no matter how big or small the job.

Wouldn’t you like to make life easier for yourself? Well, of course, you can! Once you’ve pencilled in your event date make sure to pencil us in too – for the day after, so you can relax and let Netflix soothe your recovery.

One question that we hear quite often from our customers is how long you should go between steam cleans for your carpet? Of course, we say this depends! However, there are some loose guidelines that you can follow to ensure that you are keeping your carpet in the best condition possible.

A general rule of thumb

A good rule of thumb is to have your carpet professionally steam cleaned at least once a year, twice if you seem to track a lot of dirt in. This way you get a good, deep cleaning and don’t let the dirt build up. Vacuum once or twice a week to keep it clean in between your steam cleaning sessions.

If you have pets

Pets that drop a lot of furs can be very annoying. You’ll probably need to vacuum more often – twice to three times a week to keep things clean. And as for professional steam cleaning? You’ll want to do that around twice to three times a year.

If you have a busy household

If you have a lot of people in your home, and especially young children, things can get dirty more quickly. So, similarly to if you have pets, you’ll need to do more cleaning. Vacuum carpets twice to three times a week and get a professional deep steam clean twice to three times a year to keep everything in tip top shape.

Is it necessary to steam clean when moving?

A lot of people ask us whether it’s necessary to steam clean your carpets before moving – they might be quite clean. Generally, the answer is always yes, to avoid having to pay extra fees to a home agent. Many rental contracts have it written in the contract that you will steam clean the carpets before moving and provide them with the receipts as proof that you have done so.

Spot cleaning & blotting

Spot cleaning your carpets in the case of spills is another issue. You may not be due for a steam clean, and the rest is already in good shape, so what do you do? First of all, remove any debris from the surface of the carpet, and then blot with a clean, dry cloth to mop up any liquid, moving the material around to the clean parts with each press. Press down quite firmly to do so. Then, take a spot cleaning product and follow the instructions to clean further. Test on a small piece of carpet in the corner to ensure it doesn’t bleach your carpet as some of these products do.

Carpets in need of a steam clean? For Sydney carpet cleaning, think of Houseproud. We offer not only domestic cleaning but professional carpet cleaning services too.

Your home is your safe place, your haven if you will. But this doesn’t necessary mean that it’s always going to be the perfect environment. While you may think that you’re relatively safe from diseases at home, this may not be the case.

We all know that we can pick up things like the flu and chickenpox from other people that come home – generally the kids! – but there are some other diseases too, that we can catch in the home. These aren’t necessarily transferred from another person…

Meningitis

Did you know that the droppings of rats can carry a disease called Lymphocytic Choriomeningitis that will present in humans as meningitis? If rat poop accidentally touches your food or dishes, and if the disease is present, you could contract meningitis by ingesting the infectious substance.

Meningitis can have a whole range of symptoms from headaches to fever, throwing up, or stiffness. It’s often difficult to tell and can feel a bit like the flu. Mostly this form of meningitis is relatively mild, which we’re happy to report.

Infectious jaundice

Another rat-borne disease is leptospirosis. This disease can come about from touching the rat, or from coming in contact with contaminated water or soil. Much like meningitis above, the symptoms in humans can present like the flu. While most people recover easily, it can, however, move on to other things such as infectious jaundice.

Lyssavirus (ABLV)

ABLV is a disease within the same family as rabies. And while we don’t have rabies in Australia, what we do have is ABLV – which is spread through bats. Bats are common throughout many regions of Australia. This disease is extremely rare, and can only be caught from being in direct contact with a bat – so make sure that you don’t touch them if you find any bats congregating in your home or under the eaves. You can catch the disease if a bat either bites or scratches you and this disease can be fatal. If you find an influx of bats it’s best to talk with a pest specialist about what to do about it, rather than risk your health.

Keeping wildlife such as rats and bats away from you home starts with keeping it clean, and all foods covered. Animals will come into your home to find food and to seek shelter. For good house cleaners, get in contact with us at HouseProud. We can help with a regular cleaning of your home, or even just a once off now and then if you would prefer.

Keeping your home clean can help in preventing each and every infectious disease around the house from spreading to you and your loved ones.

Us Sydney-Siders love many things: our glorious beaches and waterways, our Opera House, our bush getaways, and the fact that we can call ourselves the most bustling city in the country! But do you know what else we love? We love those things in life that make our lives just that little bit easier, that little bit less frictional – like using professional home cleaners.

Hands up who likes cleaning? No? Cleaning isn’t something that is usually enjoyed – that’s why we say that it’s a chore. And why should we have to spend our precious free time doing something that we really don’t enjoy, if we have the means to have it done by a professional.

Professional home cleaning is becoming more and more popular. As we all lead very busy lives it simply makes sense to outsource the tasks that we have no time to do or even the tasks that we’d prefer not to do. By employing a professional cleaner you are not only providing somebody with a way to earn a living but allowing yourself some free time and peace of mind, by not having to worry about the cleaning. It really is a win-win situation.

Having a house cleaner can be particularly stress-relieving if you have a family and a big house. It takes a lot of work to keep a household clean – which is why it’s great to be able to get some help. Whether it’s just a clean every now and then, or a weekly clean, it’s a real load off your mind when you know you don’t have to drag out the mop, etc.

Sydney is the business capital of Australia, which means that we have a lot on our plates when it comes to working. If you work in the city but commute from elsewhere, then it can take even more time out of your day – so you don’t really want to have to clean when you get home in the evening, you want to relax!

At HouseProud, we have a team of professional cleaners ready to help come and clean your house or apartment. Each of our cleaners are professionally trained, and we use commercial grade cleaning products so that your home can shine brightly. If you’ve never used a professional cleaning service before, then why not try ours out? Get in touch for a one off clean to see what a difference it can make to your life. Many of our customers choose to have ongoing house cleaning, as they find it a welcome change in their lives that frees up more time.
