Arm yourself with plenty of soft cloths, such as old sheets, when it is time to dust. A dirty cloth can scratch surfaces so turn it frequently. To hold dust on the cloth, soak it first in kerosene andhang to dry. Wash and treat with kerosene every 5 or 6 weeks. For extra protection wipe your wooden furniture with this finishing polish: 10 drops lemon extract mixed into 1 litre mineral oil. Apply sparingly and polish with a soft cloth. Attach castors or wide-based glides to furniture legs so that you can easily move furniture to clean under it. This also prevents marring of floor coverings.
